Furniture Design
Designing pieces for my own space has been a great way to explore fresh concepts and new skills.
As a designer, I am always looking to expand my knowledge. I have used furniture design to develop new skills and improve my techniques.
Here is a collection of furniture I have designed and built over the years.
The Ekolu Chair
Ekolu means three in Hawaiian. This chair was designed with three materials, three uses, and three design elements.
Made from Acrylic, Aluminum, and Stainless Steel.
Designed to be a stool, chair, and end table. Allows for extra seating, and workspace.
Designed to be simple, compact, and elegant.
Modern Coffee Table
After learning how to weld and work with sheet metal, I wanted to create a coffee table that shows the strength differences in various materials.
Utilizing plasma cut and bent steel for the legs and laminated plywood for the main table body. An accent coat of white paint inside helps tie the piece together.
Toggle Coat Rack
I wanted to create a coat rack that can expand to fit as many coats as you need, or to accommodate odd sized things. Pop out as many hangers as you need.
Designed with hidden hardware and keyhole mounts spaced 16” apart to line up with wall studs.
An internal thread allows for adjustable tension if the toggle hook get loose. It also acts as the pivot and internal structure.
